Upgrade / Downgrade and Gift Trends Dashboard
An anonymized dashboard-format analytic showing the direction donors are moving in value, safe to share with AI tools for upgrade and intervention planning.
How to use the Upgrade / Downgrade and Gift Trends Dashboard
This is a dashboard-format analytic that shows the direction your donors are moving in value. It is built on the anonymized data from analyses QX22 (net upgrade and downgrade momentum) plus targeted donor-level lists: QX234 and QX235 (top donors whose gifts are rising or declining), QX236 (all active donors whose giving is declining), and QX229, QX230, and QX232 (donors sitting just below an upgrade threshold). All personally identifying information has been removed, so these prospect and intervention lists can be shared with AI tools for planning.
The tabs pair a program-wide view of net momentum with the specific donors driving it. The momentum view tells you whether, on balance, your base is trending up or down in value. The targeted lists then make that actionable by naming, in anonymized form, the donors who are rising and ready for an upgrade ask, those quietly declining and in need of intervention, and those sitting just below the next tier where a modest nudge could move them up.
The strategic value is that value movement is where much of your revenue growth is won or lost. An upgrade ask aimed at a donor already trending upward converts far better than a random appeal, and catching a declining major donor early can prevent a costly loss. Because the data is anonymized, you can use an AI tool to help prioritize these lists, draft tailored upgrade or retention messaging, and model the revenue upside of moving near-threshold donors up a tier.
You should refresh this quarterly and route the lists to the gift officers and annual giving leads who own those relationships. Run upgrade asks for donors closest to the next tier, intervene on those declining, and use an AI assistant to scale the personalization.
Measure success by the number of donors upgraded, by reduced downgrade and lapse among flagged declining donors, and by net positive value momentum across the base over time.
