Retention and Attrition Dashboard
An anonymized dashboard-format analytic showing whether you keep the donors you have, safe to share with AI tools for deeper analysis and outreach planning.
How to use the Retention and Attrition Dashboard
This is a dashboard-format analytic that answers whether your organization keeps the donors it has. It is built on the anonymized data from analyses QX162 (year-over-year retention by segment), QX26 and QX74 (first-year retention quality), QX46 (three-year consecutive-donor value), and QX18 and QX222 (donor-level attrition early-warning lists). Because all personally identifying information has been removed, even the at-risk donor detail can be shared with AI tools for pattern analysis and outreach planning.
The visualization tabs move from the big picture to the actionable. Segment retention shows where you are holding donors and where you are losing them, first-year retention reveals how well newly acquired donors survive their critical second year, and the three-year consecutive-donor view quantifies the outsized value of donors who give year after year. The attrition early-warning content flags active donors whose behavior suggests they are drifting toward lapse while there is still time to intervene.
The strategic value is that retention is far cheaper than acquisition, and catching a slipping donor before they lapse is cheaper still. Seeing which segment leaks worst, and how much a retained multi-year donor is worth, tells you where a small improvement produces the largest return. With the data anonymized, you can also feed the at-risk lists into an AI tool to help draft segmented outreach language or to model the revenue saved by lifting retention a few points.
You should refresh this quarterly and put the early-warning lists in front of the annual giving and stewardship teams. Stand up targeted outreach for the highest-risk donors, and use the anonymized detail with an AI assistant to prioritize and personalize that outreach at scale.
Measure success by improvement in the weakest segment's retention rate, by better first-year survival among new donors, and by how many flagged at-risk donors are retained after intervention.
