How to use the Incremental Lift by New/Existing DB Style for CFY

This is a dashboard-format analytic that shows how your current fiscal year is performing against a three-year monthly baseline, broken down by donor lifecycle, that is, New versus Existing donors. It is built on the data from analysis QX268, and it is the dashboard, or DB-style, companion to the New-versus-Existing incremental lift view (the same lifecycle split available as the standard analytic QX107).

The workbook centers on a single Lifecycle Detail tab that spills the QX268 data live: one row for each month and donor lifecycle, showing the three-year baseline for that month, the current-fiscal-year actual, and the resulting incremental lift percentage. Because it refreshes with the runtime, it always reflects the latest month of activity. The incremental lift percentage is the key figure, telling you how far ahead of or behind your historical norm each group is running in each month.

The strategic value is that a single organization-wide pacing number hides where growth is really coming from. By separating New from Existing donors month by month, this view tells you whether you are ahead of baseline because you are acquiring more new donors, because your existing base is giving more, or some mix, which point to very different responses.

You should refresh and review this monthly with your development director. When the lift for Existing donors turns negative, concentrate on retention and upgrade of your current base; when New-donor lift lags, shift attention to acquisition; and use the month-by-month pattern to time appeals to the lifecycle group that needs attention.

Measure success by positive and improving incremental lift versus baseline across the year, and by a healthy contribution to that lift from both New and Existing donors rather than reliance on just one.
