Concentration and Giving Pyramid Dashboard
An anonymized dashboard-format analytic quantifying how dependent your program is on a small number of donors, safe to share with AI tools for deeper analysis.
How to use the Concentration and Giving Pyramid Dashboard
This is a dashboard-format analytic that shows how dependent your organization is on a small number of donors. It is built on the anonymized data from analyses QX41 (the giving pyramid), QX40 and QX223 (top-50-percent and top-100 concentration), QX227 (the largest gifts of the last fiscal year), and QX179 (a donor-level pyramid drill-down). All personally identifying information has been stripped from the data, so even the donor-level detail can be shared safely with AI tools for further analysis and strategy development.
The tabs let you see the shape of your donor base and where the money actually comes from. The giving pyramid shows how donors and dollars distribute across gift-size bands, while the concentration measures quantify how much of your total revenue sits with your top 100 donors and your top half of givers. The largest-gifts view and the anonymized donor-level drill-down let you understand the makeup of that top tier without needing to name anyone.
The central insight is concentration risk. When a large share of revenue rests on a handful of relationships, the loss of even one or two can disrupt a budget, and this analytic turns that exposure into a number you can watch over time and act on. Because it is anonymized, you can also use an AI tool to model scenarios, such as the revenue impact of losing a top tier, and to draft diversification strategies grounded in your real distribution.
You should review this at least annually with leadership, and more often if concentration is high. Use it to quantify risk for the board, to prioritize stewardship of the donors who carry the base, and to ask an AI assistant to propose a plan for broadening support.
Measure success by a stabilizing or declining share of revenue held by the top tiers, by growth in the number of donors outside the top 100, and by a documented stewardship plan for your highest-value relationships.
